Attempting upgrade XA R6 -> XA R7.8

I wish I could deliver some good news but so far all it has been is painful. We have gone through a significant number of migration tool versions and the green screen files are finally migrating. The client side migration has been a dismal failure so far. The client migration has failed every time it has been attempted.

We are attempting to have the company running XA R7.8 in production by late September and for the green screen code that may happen but any use of Power Link beyond EPDM looks dubious at this point.

I should also note that migrating the IFM data takes a significant amount of time on our resource limited i5. I takes around 18 hours for the IFM files to migrate. Part of that time is spent on populating the new Power Link based IFM files. We do expect to pick up between a factor of 2x to 4x when this occurs in production but IFM files take a lot of time to migrate.

We have had 3 customers move to Rel 7.8. While it was ultimately successful, it was a bit painful. Much of it did involve the version of migration tool they were using. Essentially we were told "the new version won 't have this issue". I have to admit Infor was very responsive to issues and resolutions. Part of the challenge was to finally hit a target version of the migration tool that our customer was comfortable with, and being able to test it repeatly. (sort of trying to hit a moving target however)

One of our installs was IFM and it did have it's own issues as well. It is up and running however. Our biggest areas were IFM bugs and also CSM Customization using Enterprise integrator (secondary objects for example)

But the good news is we have 2 relatively big customers using Rel 7.8, so it is possible! Just challenging and i think more time consuming than originally planned.

Hope things work out for you..

How have your customers dealt with the client customization issues? We are a modest sized company. We are licensed for 200 concurrent users. We have around 60 user developed business objects (Browser XA R6) and many of them became business objects in the R7.8 environment but the linkage back to the Infor objects were lost.
